Michelle’s Aussie Amble!
On the 11 July while many people will be excited about the football world cup final Michelle will be gearing up to run approximately 26 200 steps (or more commonly known as a half marathon) around Oulton Park.
Michelle will be the first British volunteer to work with YFC Australia. She will be there for 3 months from early September to early December. We hope that this will open many opportunities for our Ministries to work together in the future. Michelle has been working with YFC in Gloucester since 2006 and is excited about this opportunity.
The first part will be divided between Albury, NSW working on a Schools mission, then partnering with people in Gippsland, Victoria and working with head office and the Melbourne Branch. Michelle will attend the National Conference from there she will be partnering with a new Branch in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast.
Australia may sound like a 3 month holiday, but there are many challenges involved in working with young people there;
• 3 million youth aged 15 – 24
• Only 1 in 5 young person in Australia will ever wander into a Church
• Less than half of Australian youth believe in God, and 39% believe in a personal God
• Teenagers aged 15 – 19 have the highest rate of hospitalisation due to alcohol
• Suicide is the leading cause of death for youth aged 15 – 24
Please help Michelle reach her fundraising target of £2000 so she can represent Jesus to the youth of Australia and British YFC to our co-workers over the water...far over the water!
