Summer Trip to Uganda 2010
When? 25 June – 9 July 2010 (subject to flight availability)
Where? Uganda – Kampala
Price? £1500 (includes:preparation w/end April 23-25 2010 in Rugby)
Come and join a team for 2 weeks working in Uganda! We are planning to send another team to Central Africa next summer and you could be part of it. Do you like sport e.g. football, netball, basketball? Would you be willing to listen to Ugandan children and young people read English, get involved in RE lessons, help teach Lifeskills and HIV/aids education? Would you like to join in church services and times of worship? We have just the opportunity for you!
It will give you the chance to make new friends as well as sharing in worship and witness of Christians in another culture. There is nothing like an overseas trip to give you insight into the global church, getting involved in youth work, learning about key issues which affect young people overseas and meeting challenges to enable your own faith to grow and develop!
Uganda is roughly the size of the United Kingdom and lies astride the equator right in the heart of Africa. It is a land-locked country with an average daily temperature between 20C – 27C. Entebbe airport lies alongside Lake Victoria the largest lake in Africa and the river Nile has its source in Uganda too!

What will I be doing?
There will be pre-trip preparation both in the UK and also when the team arrive in Uganda. You will get involved in various types of ministry in Kampala and also a rural setting, which may include:
- Involvement in sports activities
- Involvement in schools work e.g. RE, English, Life-skills training
- Visiting children’s homes
- Attending Ugandan churches and taking part in teaching/worship sessions with Ugandan Christians
It won’t all be work and you will get time off to see some of the amazing sights of the country – both traditional and modern, including a short safari.
There will be work with staff and volunteers of both Uganda Youth for Christ and The Kids League who are based in Kampala but who also have work outside the capital. They are dedicated to serving the lives of children and young people in their country, showing them love and compassion through schools work, organised sporting activities and other work such as crisis pregnancy work.
Who will I go with?
You will be joining a team of 6-8 people recruited nationally in the UK. There will be 2 leaders who have had experience of working in mission teams, including overseas.
How much do I have to raise?
The trip will cost approximately £1500, depending on flight availability and costs. This includes your flight, insurance, travel in location, accommodation, food and training - a short safari may also be included. Your vaccination costs and travel to the preparation weekend is not included. You are also responsible for bringing your own personal spending money. A deposit of £100 is due with your application form and subsequent payments are made in instalments, allowing you time to raise your funds. We will also help you with lots of ways to raise your money!
What about preparation before the trip and Debriefing?
There will be a training weekend from 23-25 April 2010 in Rugby where you will meet other people going on summer missions to different countries and where you will be provided with information on the location, medical advice and book lists. There will be a further training day for your specific team before leaving for Antigua. The Debrief Day is in September in the YFC Head Office, Halesowen.
