Meet a Centre Director

Step this way ladies…

With more female Centre Directors than ever before, two new ladies making their mark are Lyndsay Smith from Chislehurst and Lucy Davies in Taunton.

“I’ve been working with Chisleshurst YFC for 3 months now, and I love it!  I’ve been working with young people for just over 7 years in various roles, secular and church.  My paid roles have mainly been with children and young people at risk of offending and exclusion.  I was working for a government funded project which I really enjoyed, but when I saw the job for Chislehurst YFC I just knew I had to apply. I’d been getting increasingly frustrated by the restraints of a secular job with my passion for evangelism and seeing little transformation in people’s lives.

At my interview I asked the Trustees what they expected to happen with the young people once they came to know Jesus.  Instead of them all trying to grab them for their own churches, they said they didn’t care, just as long as young people were coming to know God in Chislehurst. That really touched me.

I like music, especially hip hop, soul and Neil Dimond, but don’t like cheesy RnB or cucumber!
Lyndsay, Chislehurst

“I have been Centre Director of Youth for Christ in Taunton since November 2006.  I first became involved in this local Centre when I was 16 years old and the Centre was being set up.  I took part in the “PowerStation” townwide monthly celebration, cell group and other events organized by Taunton YFC.

At 18 I left Taunton and headed for Birmingham where I spent 4 years doing youth work and trained with the Centre for Youth Ministry.  I returned to Taunton in January 2006 where I spent 6 months as a temp working on 25 different jobs – from packing make-up for a shopping channel to booking hospital transport!  I was temping because I was sure that I was going to be in Taunton temporarily.  However, it became clear over several months that God was calling me to stay in Taunton and to apply to work with Taunton YFC.  We still run “PowerStation” each month, as well as a weekly youth café and we work in 3 schools each week.  We recently saw 8 young people from schools come to faith in 8 days.

I work for YFC because I want to be part of taking the fullness of the gospel to young people in Taunton.  I love spending time with people, drinking tea, taking photographs and challenging thinking.  Above all I believe that God’s way is the best way and I want to live in a way that glorifies Him”.
