yfc one – Gap year volunteers take up the challenge

On Tuesday the 1^st of September, around 50 17-25 year old young people headed to YFC Head Office in Halesowen to begin their gap-year with Youth for Christ. 

Beckie Allport, Volunteer support manager, says “We are all so excited about the start of yfc one this year.  With young people coming from all over the country, following God’s call and getting involved in mission in the UK or Overseas, we are looking forward to what God is going to do in them and through them as they step out and rely on Him.”

Volunteers will now start ETC; an intense September training course where they will also get to know each other.  Throughout their time with YFC, they will be trained in youth-work and evangelism, mentored and helped to discover and develop their gifts, identity and future.  Placed in teams according to their interests and giftings and in different locations across the country, volunteers use Sport, Film, music, youthwork and drama to engage with young people and take the good news of Jesus to them.

There are also opportunities to receive accredited training and a certificate in youthwork in one year and then added possibility of progressing to a Youthwork degree for those considering a career in youthwork.
