Scottish youth come to faith at Fort Rocky
Inverclyde YFC recently had the privilege of taking some young people from both Port Glasgow High School and Gourock High School to Fort Rocky . A fantastic weekend was had by all. Each of the young people took part in activities such as Climbing, Archery and Raft Building. When a Gospel presentation was given, many responded by surrendering their lives to Christ and in the months after have started a Bible study group.
Each night and afternoon the Fort Rocky team delivered a “Roadshow” where they gave young people the chance to explore the Christian faith in an exciting and interactive way. On the Saturday evening a Gospel presentation was given, and all of the young people who came responded to it either for the first time; as a re-commitment ;or as a fresh touch from God. It was very moving and encouraging to see.
Inverclyde YFC encouraged the young people by providing opportunities for them to learn about and share the love of God. As a first step in supporting these young people Inverclyde YFC gave them all a youth bible and some daily reading notes, so they could explore the word of God for themselves.
Following their request for a Bible study group, 'Rock On' was set up; which is held in the prayer room at Greenock Methodist Church. The church there have very kindly agreed to let Inverclyde YFC use this space. Their support has been a real encouragement to the IYFC team, and the young people are all grateful for the comfy and cosy space!
At the first ever 'Rock on', Simon lead the group in some fun icebreakers, as this was the first time they'd all seen each other since Fort Rocky. In the second half, the team were able to present the young people with the new Youth Bibles, which many different people had financially contributed towards. They were all thankful. Some time was then spent teaching the young people how to use the bibles, before playing a bible quiz. After a while the rules were taken away and the quiz fell apart. This was to illustrate the idea that rules are necessary. Simon talked with the young people about how the bible is often thought of as a rule book which restricts people, but how it is actually a book of guidance designed to help people get the most out of life. The team then looked at the 10 Commandments with the young people and the commandments that Jesus spoke of, to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind”, and to “Love your neighbour as you love yourself.” Luke 10v27.
Simon challenged the group to think about what the world would be like if everyone actually chose to live by those two commandments Jesus spoke of. One young person commented, “Well, if everyone did it, there would be world peace!” We asked the young people to consider these verses throughout the week and to encourage each other to read their bibles.
On the whole, the feedback from the group was really positive. It has been so exciting to see young people getting excited about the Word of God.
The IYFC team want to thank all of who have prayed for these young people, and all who financially contributed towards providing the bibles and have encouraged us as individuals and as a team. Your support is very much appreciated and valued. Please continue to keep these young people in your prayers.
Would you or your church buy a youth bible and daily reading notes for these young people?
We can purchase a youth bible for £8.00 and “young person friendly” daily reading notes for £4.00 (every 3 months).
If this is something you would like to do, please contact Jen or Simon at Inverclyde YFC on 01475 633348 and we'll get a donation form out to you. Please email jen@iyfc.org.uk for a form and return it to us at the office. (We still need some money to get the daily reading notes. These are £4.00 each every quarter.)
