Fort Rocky goes global as new Residentials Coordinator starts

15 July, 2009

On the weekend of the 15th-17th May at the Pioneer Centre in Kidderminster, Andy Hancock – the new YFC Residentials Coordinator kicked off his first Fort Rocky (YFC’s evangelistic activity weekend) and it was a huge success.  The theme this year is going “Around the world in a weekend” and freedom is looked at and what it means for young people today.  “Around 160 young people came and we saw God really move, which was amazing.” says Andy.

On the weekend, the young people got to experience what it would be like to fly around the world, visiting different locations and cultures such as China and Hawaii.  The engaging, balanced programme of a Fort Rocky weekend appeals to every kind of young person and in all the years we have been running the weekends, thousands have had the life changing experience of meeting Jesus.

Andy says. “The focal point of the weekend is the Gospel talk on the Saturday night and over 100 young people responded to the message, which was incredible! It was clear that the Holy Spirit was there and was really moving amongst the young people.”

The weekend draws to a close with a talk entitled “Freedom to change the world” which encourages the young people to make a difference not only in the world around them but in the wider world also.  They hear about “Turn on the Tap” - a project run by Samaritan’s Purse, which aims to give clean and healthy water to families in Africa.  The young people are given the chance to give to the project and after only 2 residentials so far this year, almost £500 has been donated.

After completing his first Fort Rocky and seeing God do amazing things – Andy and the team were completely shattered but so thankful for all that He had done in the lives of the young people who came.  “It was such a thrill to see so many young people having lots of fun, fellowship and building significant relationships during the weekend.  Even more than that though, young lives were changed as the Good News was declared, which is what we long to see every time we do a residential.”
