Big vision for the future of Youth for Christ

16 October, 2009

12th October 2009

As Gavin Calver, along with almost 100 other staff and volunteers were commissioned in Coventry on Saturday, he urged each person to embrace a bold, big vision to reach many more young people with the good news of Jesus Christ.

Still under 30, Gavin, Youth for Christ’s new National Director used a Bible passage from Ephesians 3 to remind people that God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”.  Currently YFC reaches 300,000 young people each month, through our work in schools, groups, sports clubs, prisons and on the streets.  Gavin would like YFC to be meeting one million young people each month, since he proposes that “if you can reach 15% of young people in this country we will influence an entire generation and change the future of the UK”.

Gavin was prayed for, along with his wife Anne, by Ian and Nadine Parkinson of New Wine, as well as some of YFC’s Local Centre Directors.  Gavin was affirmed for seeking to serve God, rather than being concerned with status or position.  Worship was led by Luke, a 19 year old volunteer, and the afternoon was a great encouragement to all the new gap year volunteers who will serve God across the UK using sport, media, theatre and working alongside Local Centres.

Ken Wright, Chairman of YFC says, “This was a great celebration of God’s faithfulness to Youth for Chris. This is an exciting time of growth and Gavin’s passion for taking the Good News to young people is an inspiration. I am convinced that God will use YFC to see a whole generation of British young people encounter the love and salvation of Jesus”.
